Senior Scholarships

This is a list of scholarships available for seniors to apply for.  Most of them are now web-based and can be accessed online.  This will be updated as frequently as possible when new opportunities become available.

 

SAMMY 2010—The Scholar Athlete Milk Mustache of the Year (SAMMY) Award Program provides high school scholar athletes in grade 12 with the opportunity to earn college scholarships.  Go to bodybymilk.com to apply or to nominate a student athlete scholar.  Deadline to apply is March 5, 2010.

 

Vocational Education Scholarship Program—hosted by the Kansas Board of Regents is for any student planning to enroll full-time in a designated one or two-year vocational program is eligible to take the designated vocational scholarship test.  This year is will be offered on March 6 (reg deadline February 19).  Recipients will receive $500 stipends for the 2010-2011 academic year.  Please see me for registration information.

 

Kansas Association of Collegiate Registrars and Admissions Counselors/Glenn Lygrisse Scholarship—This scholarship is to award and encourage students w ho have demonstrated leadership during their high school years.  To qualify, students must plan to attend one of the KACRAO member institutes, have a 3.25 GPA, have a minimum of a 22 ACT, and provide evidence of leadership experience.  Please see me for an application or visit www.kacrao.org to apply by March 12, 2010.

 

Southern Pioneer Electric Company—is offering a chance at a $750 scholarship to any Southwestern Heights senior who plans to attend college full-time next year in the U.S.  Please see me for a copy of the brochure with requirements.  Deadline to apply is March 15, 2010.

 

Community Foundation of Southwest Kansas—Is offering various scholarship opportunities for students in Southwest Kansas.  Two recommendations, a personal essay, and a photo must accompany your application.  See me for a copy of the application and directions.  Deadline to apply is March 15, 2010.

 

Black Hills Energy Scholarship—Black Hills Energy will award approximately 15 scholarships of $1,000 each to Kansas students whose parents are customers of the company.  Applicants must plan to earn a bachelor’s degree, be ranked in the top 25% of their class OR score a 21 or higher on the ACT, parents must be Black Hills Energy customers, and may not be related to employees.  See me for an application; deadline to apply is March 19, 2010.

 

Southwest Kansas Bar Association—This is an essay scholarship contest.  The essay must be on the subject of the American Bar Association 2010 Law Day theme-“Law in the 21st Century:  Enduring Traditions, Emerging Challenges.”  Please see me for more information.  Deadline to apply is March 26, 2010.

 

Jim Johnson Scholarship—The High Plains Chapter of the American Meteorological Society and the National Weather Association have established the Jim Johnson Scholarship.  This scholarship is awarded annually to a high school senior who will be pursuing a career in one of the physical sciences (Chemistry, Physics, Astronomy, Earth Science, including geology, hydrology, meteorology, oceanography, and soil science).  Applicants will be required to write a one page essay.  Please see me for more information; deadline to apply is April 1, 2010.

 

BP Hugoton Field Scholarship Program—Residents of Seward County are encouraged to apply if they have a 3.5 GPA or above, a composite ACT score of 24, and have financial need.  Please see me for a copy of the application; deadline to apply is April 9, 2010.

 

Steve Harper Scholarship—The Kansas Wildscape Foundation is assisting the Steve Harper Scholarship Committee in administering this scholarship that is available to any high school senior planning to attend a Kansas college and major in either natural resources or photography curriculum.  See me for a copy of the application; deadline to apply is April 15, 2010.

 

 

Beef Empire Days, Inc—Seniors in Southwest Kansas and the Oklahoma and Texas Panhandles are encouraged to apply if they are going to pursue a full-time education in a field related to agriculture.  Please see me for an application; deadline is April 16, 2010.

 

 

Grasshopper Trust (Vera Waters Educational Trust—This scholarship is being offered to seniors in Meade County.  Please see me for an application and information sheet.  Deadline to apply is May 15, 2010.

 

The Hispanic Scholarship Fund—applications are now available for the 2010-2011 academic year.  If you are of Hispanic heritage, have a 3.0 GPA, are a US citizen or permanent resident, and plan to enroll full-time at a college in the fall of 2010, see me for information and website details.

 

Allen Community College—is offering a number of scholarships for students interested in Fine Arts (Music, Theatre, or Art).  If interested, please see me for an application.

 

Coffeyville Community College—is offering their Enhancement Scholarship to any student interested in any of the following activities:  Agriculture, Athletic Training, Cheer, Dance, Instrumental Music, Meats Judging, Rodeo, Theatre, Art, Broadcasting, Choral Music, Horticulture, Livestock Judging, Native American Leadership, or Student Government.  Please see me for more information.
