ACT Information

Registration deadlines and testing dates

September 02, 2008

The ACT is an important entrance exam for students who are planning to attend a post-secondary school (either 2-year or 4-year).  Most community colleges accept all students, but base some of their scholarship money on ACT test scores.  Any senior who has not taken the ACT needs to do so as soon as they possibly can so that they can have a score for college applications.  Juniors need to start looking at taking the ACT for the first time so they have an idea of what to expect and can retake it if they feel it is necessary later.  Juniors who are planning to take College Algebra in the spring also need to take the ACT so they can meet the required score to be admitted into the class for college credit.  In order to take College Algebra as a college credit, students must have a 20 on the math section of the ACT or the required score on the COMPASS test.

The ACT is given nationally on specific dates (see table below).  Please make sure you are aware of the deadlines and get your registration packet post-marked by the appropriate day.  Students interested in registering need to pick up a registration packet from me, or register online at www.actstudent.org (this is highly encouraged).  There are two test options, the ACT only or the ACT Plus Writing.  The writing section is in addition the the ACT test and will help students if they are planning to apply at a 4-year university or an out-of-state college.  If you are not sure if the college you are interested in requires the writing section, check the college web site, or ask me and I can look it up for you.  The fee for the ACT only is $32 this year, and the ACT Plus Writing is $47.  If you need help registering, please call me for assistance.  Our high school code is 171-620.

Students are encouraged to practice for the ACT by going online to www.actonlineprep.com, clicking on Log In and using the username and password that has been provided to them.  This is a free service provided by the school and allows the students to take practice tests online and get help on questions they answer incorrectly.
